I'm delighted that the Friends of the Durning Library have invited me to give a talk about my book 'James Fitzjames: The Mystery Man of the Franklin Expedition' on Monday, 17th January, 2011 at 6:45 pm for 7:15 pm. The Friends will provide light refreshments and there is no admission charge, although a £2.00 donation is suggested.
The Durning Library is my local library and it is a delightful building. I am delighted to be able to support it in this way. You can find the Durning Library at 167, Kennington Lane, London, SE11 4HF and it is easily accessible from central London by bus and tube.
In my talk I'll try to explain the context of the Franklin Expedition and explain what compelled me to write the book and what it tells us about Captain James Fitzjames. If there is time I will also be able to touch on two intriguing links between Kennington, where I have lived for almost 25 years, and James Fitzjames himself.
If you would like to come along you will be most welcome and please let the Friends or me know so we can keep track of numbers.
