Just a note for those who are interested that I have published an important correction about James Fitzjames on the book's website here. It's significance is that it now looks impossible that Fitzjames was born in Brazil and it seems certain now that he was born in England somewhere, possibly in Devon.
Do I regret this? No. I published the Brazil thesis based on the best information I had at the time, and it was only through publication that new evidence came to my attention to take the story forward.
The other piece of news is that I have now set up a wikipedia page for James Fitzjames here. I hope it can be maintained and improved.
